Lagos state reward fireman injured on duty

The Lagos state government has presented a cheque of five million naira to Mr. Sikiru Agbaje, a Principal Fire Superintendent II, who was injured in an incident  in January last year. The firefighter susutained multiple injuries in the course of fighting the fire which occurred in Ikotun area of the state.

 

He was subsequently treated at the state Teaching hospital in Ikeja. 

Before handing over the cheque, the Commissioner for Home Affairs and Culture, Alhaji Oyinlomo Danmole said the money was in appreciation of the fireman’s commitment to service and also to assist him financially

Alhaji Danmole said in addition to improved welfare package for fire officers, the state government had also instituted what he called “a defensive fire fighting strategy” while a complete kit of protective gear and other firefighting equipment which were recently procured would arrive the state soon.

Commending the firemen for being hardworking, the Commissioner also assured them of the state government’s commitment to their well being.

Responding, Mr Agbaje thanked the state government for the gesture, noting that it would spur him and others to put in their best,

Thirty-f our fire officers  were also decorated on the occasion.
