Mudslide claims life in Ikeja

(September 6, 2016) Mudslide as a result of heavy rainfall occurred on Tuesday at Agidingbi area of Ikeja, Lagos killing at least one person.

The Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Emergency Agency, LASEMA, Mr. Adebayo Kehinde told Radio Nigeria, that the incident happened in the morning.

There was torrential rainfall in Lagos for more than 48 hours.

Communities in riverine areas including Majidun in Ikorodu , Agility in Kosofe Local Government Area and many areas of Lekki have been heavily flooded and many houses submerged.

Thousands of people sacked from their homes were seen moving about carrying their personal belongings.

In Ikorodu, the popular Igbogbo road where a WAEC Office is located has been closed, after a section of the road around the Cemetery area was submerged.

Following the incident, the cost of transportation has increased by as much as 100 percent, because commercial vehicles had to ply longer routes
